How Prop Firm Payouts Work: Conditions, Limits and Profit Split

How do prop firm payouts work? A payout is a withdrawal of your share of the profit earned on a funded account. You do not deposit money to trade: you pay a fee to take part in a challenge, pass it, receive an account with a defined notional and then withdraw your part of the trading result. Almost every prop firm builds its payouts around the same parameters: a minimum period between requests, a minimum number of profit days, compliance with the drawdown limits, the trader's profit split and a cap on a single payout. On Upscale, you can request your first payout 14 calendar days after moving to a funded account, provided you have 5 profit days. You keep 80% of the profit, or 90% with the upgrade, and payouts arrive in USDT on TON, Base or BSC. Below we look at how the payout amount is calculated, what conditions prop firms set and what can block a request.

Real payout figures from Upscale traders are collected in How Much Do Prop Traders Make. We cover how drawdown affects payouts and why its floor moves after a withdrawal in Prop Firm Drawdown Types.

What a prop firm payout is

In regular trading, you withdraw the money you deposited along with whatever you earned on it. Prop trading works differently. The trader pays to take part in a challenge and, after passing it, receives a funded account with a defined notional, such as $10,000 or $100,000. The trading result on that account is measured in dollars, and a payout is the transfer of the trader's share of the profit.

Few traders get that far. According to FPFX Tech data cited by Finance Magnates, out of 100,000 traders about 14% passed the challenge and about 7% received a payout. In other words, roughly half of those who reached a funded account never withdrew any profit. That is why the payout rules deserve as much attention as the challenge rules.

What makes up the payout amount

The payout amount depends on three things:

  • Profit on the account. The difference between the current balance and the level the firm measures profit from, such as the account notional.
  • Profit split. The percentage of profit that goes to the trader. The rest goes to the firm.
  • Payout cap. The maximum amount you can withdraw in a single request.

Say you made $5,000 on a $50,000 account. With an 80% split you receive $4,000, and with a 90% split you receive $4,500. If the firm has a cap and it is lower than what you earned, the remaining profit stays on the account until the next period.

What conditions prop firms set

Prop firm payout conditions: payout period, profit days, limits and profit split

The exact numbers differ from firm to firm, but the set of conditions is almost always the same:

  • Payout period. The minimum time before the first payout and between requests. You cannot request earlier, even if you already have profit.
  • Profit days. You need a certain number of days on which the account grew by at least a set percentage.
  • Staying within the limits. Breaching the daily or maximum drawdown limit closes the account, and the accumulated profit is forfeited. We explain how these limits work in Prop Firm Drawdown Types.
  • Consistency rule. Limits the share of total profit that can come from the single best day. It filters out results driven by one lucky trade.
  • Payout cap. The maximum per request, often set as a percentage of the account notional.
  • Profit split. A fixed percentage of profit, sometimes with an option to raise it.
  • Payout method. Bank transfer, payment service or cryptocurrency. The method affects speed, intermediary fees and availability for traders in different countries.

All of these conditions should be spelled out in the firm's public rules, and it is worth reading them before you pay for a challenge. If something is missing or worded vaguely, treat it as a warning sign. A detailed checklist is in How to Check if a Prop Firm Is a Scam.

How payouts work on Upscale

How payouts from a funded account work on Upscale

The core payout rules are the same for every funded account, whether it follows the Basic or Accelerated challenge or is a Turbo account, where trading starts on a funded account straight away. Turbo accounts and accounts with the API option have one additional condition. The full description is on the Withdrawal Rules page.

When you can request a payout

ConditionValue
Payment periodat least 14 calendar days
Profit daysat least 5
Drawdown limitsno breaches
Current balanceabove the starting balance of the current trading iteration
Withdrawal amountfrom $1 up to the available profit, within the limit
Free marginthe amount is not tied up in open positions
Walletan address for USDT on one of the supported networks

The 14-day count starts when the account moves to funded status and restarts after every successful payout. You can submit a request on any day once that period has passed. Profit days accumulate with no time limit: if you take a break from trading, the days you have already earned are kept.

What counts as a profit day

A day counts as a profit day if the balance grew by at least 0.5% of the account's initial balance over that day. On a $10,000 account that is $50, and on a $100,000 account it is $500. The trading day runs on UTC, and the calculation uses the balance including unrealized PnL: profit counts on the day it appears, even if the position is still open. Details are on the Challenge & Trading Rules page.

How much you can withdraw per payout

The limit is a percentage of the account's original notional:

Account sizeLimit, %Limit, $
$5,00050%$2,500
$10,00040%$4,000
$25,00040%$10,000
$50,00025%$12,500
$100,00020%$20,000
$200,00015%$30,000

A single payout is capped by two figures: the limit from the table and the profit above the account's original notional. The lower of the two applies. The number of previous payouts does not affect the limit. Profit above the limit stays on the balance and remains available for trading. You can withdraw it in the next period, once all the conditions are met again.

Here is the example from the Upscale documentation. On a $100,000 account the balance grows to $130,000, and the trader withdraws $20,000, the maximum the limit allows. That leaves $110,000 on the account. The next request becomes available once the balance rises above $110,000. If it reaches $115,000, the trader can withdraw up to $15,000, not just the $5,000 earned in the new iteration, because the amount is measured against the $100,000 notional. That is all the profit above the notional, and it fits within the $20,000 limit.

Profit split and platform fee

SchemeTrader's sharePlatform feeYou receive from a $20,000 request
Standard80%20%$16,000
With the 90/10 upgrade90%10%$18,000

The fee is deducted from the request amount and matches the profit split on the account. The 90/10 upgrade is added when you buy the challenge. The platform shows the amount you will receive, with the fee applied, before you confirm the request.

Trading iterations

Every payout closes the current trading iteration and opens a new one. The starting balance of the new iteration is the balance after the payout is deducted. That sets the key condition for the next request: the current balance has to be above this starting balance. While it is at that level or below, no request can be made, even if 14 days have passed and you have the required profit days.

The maximum drawdown threshold is also recalculated from the new starting balance. The limit percentages stay the same; only the level they are measured from changes. In the Turbo format, a withdrawal lowers the highest balance and the dynamic drawdown threshold.

The extra condition for Turbo accounts and accounts with the API option

Turbo accounts and accounts with the API option are subject to the 30% rule: the single most profitable day must not account for 30% or more of total profit. Until the rule is satisfied, you cannot request a payout.

Say you made $200, $300, $1,500, $300 and $200 over five profit days, $2,500 in total. The best day accounts for 60% of the total, so you cannot withdraw yet. For that day's share to fall below 30%, total profit has to exceed $5,000. The more evenly your profit is spread across days, the sooner payouts open up.

Where the money arrives

Payouts are made in USDT, a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar, on one of three networks: TON, Base or BSC (BNB Smart Chain). Tether launched USDT on TON in 2024, and the token is also widely used for transfers on Base and BSC.

Only non-custodial wallets, where you hold the keys, can receive payouts. An exchange address belongs to the exchange, which can restrict transfers or access to funds. Before requesting a payout, make sure your wallet supports the chosen network: sending to an address on a different network can result in a loss of funds.

Every payout is a blockchain transaction you can look up in the network's explorer: Tonviewer for TON, BaseScan for Base and BscScan for BSC. According to the upscale.trade homepage, more than $3.4M had been paid out to traders as of October 2026. Trader reviews of payouts are collected in the Upscale Telegram community thread.

What can block a payout request

If there is profit on the account but the withdrawal button is unavailable, the reason is usually one of these:

  • The payment period has not ended, or you have fewer than 5 profit days.
  • The balance is not above the iteration's starting balance. The account has not grown since the last payout.
  • The money is in positions. The withdrawal amount has to be available as free margin, not backing open trades.
  • Positions on a paused market. If you hold positions in Forex pairs, commodities or indices while that market is paused, the request is unavailable until you close them or trading resumes.
  • The 30% rule is not satisfied, on Turbo accounts and accounts with the API option.
  • A request has already been submitted this period. You cannot submit a second one before the next period begins, even if the first withdrew only part of the available amount.

What can block a payout request from a funded account

Non-market profit is a separate case. The result has to come from price movement, not from platform failures or incorrect quotes. In these rare cases, Upscale may review the result of individual operations or decline a payout. None of this affects a trader running a normal market strategy.

How to prepare for your first payout

Set up a wallet in advance. Install a non-custodial wallet, choose a network and check that the wallet supports it. Save the address before the day you plan to submit your request.

Track the period dates. Note the date your account moved to funded status: a request becomes available 14 calendar days later, provided you have the required profit days by then.

Withdraw the full amount you need in one request. Only one request is allowed per period, so a partial withdrawal means waiting until the next period for the rest.

Free up margin. Before requesting, close or reduce positions so the amount you want is not tied up in trades. Check that you have no open positions on markets that are currently paused.

Spread profit evenly. On Turbo and API accounts, one big day can delay a payout because of the 30% rule. Steady daily results open withdrawals sooner.

Check the amount before confirming. The platform shows the amount you will receive after the fee. Check it, the network and the wallet address before you submit the request.

A prop firm payout is a withdrawal of your share of the profit from a funded account, not a return of your own deposit. Almost every firm shapes it with the same parameters: the payout period, profit days, staying within the limits, the profit split and a cap on the amount. Knowing these rules matters as much as passing the challenge, because only some of the traders who reach a funded account ever get paid.

On Upscale, the first request becomes available 14 calendar days after you move to a funded account, once you have 5 profit days. A single payout is capped at 15% to 50% of the notional depending on account size, and the trader's share is 80%, or 90% with the upgrade. Every payout starts a new iteration, and the next request opens once the balance rises above the new iteration's starting balance.

Payouts arrive in USDT on TON, Base or BSC, and every one of them can be found on-chain. Set up a non-custodial wallet in advance, withdraw what you need in a single request and keep that amount free of open positions. You can see how the platform and its rules work on a free demo account.

How do prop firm payouts work?

The trader passes a challenge, receives a funded account with a defined notional and trades on it. Once the firm's conditions are met, such as the payout period, profit days and staying within the limits, the trader submits a request and receives their share of the profit. The rest of the profit goes to the firm.

When can I get my first payout on Upscale?

After 14 calendar days on a funded account, provided you have at least 5 profit days and no drawdown breaches. A profit day is a day on which the balance grew by at least 0.5% of the account's initial balance.

How much can I withdraw per payout?

The limit depends on the account size: from 50% on a $5,000 account to 15% on a $200,000 account. On a $100,000 account, for example, you can withdraw up to $20,000 per period. The amount also cannot exceed the profit above the original notional, and profit above the limit stays on the account.

What profit split does Upscale offer?

80% on the standard scheme, or 90% if you add the 90/10 upgrade when buying the challenge. The platform fee is deducted from the request amount, and you see the amount you will receive before confirming.

What currency are payouts made in, and where do they arrive?

In USDT on one of three networks: TON, Base or BSC. You need a non-custodial wallet that supports the chosen network. Every payout can be found in a blockchain explorer.

Why can't I request a payout even though my account is in profit?

Most often, 14 days have not passed, you do not have enough profit days, or the balance is not above the current iteration's starting balance. A request is also blocked by funds tied up in open positions, positions on paused markets, a request already submitted this period and, on Turbo and API accounts, an unmet 30% rule.

How does a payout affect the drawdown limits?

A payout starts a new iteration, and the maximum drawdown threshold is recalculated from the balance after the deduction. The limit percentages stay the same. In the Turbo format, a withdrawal lowers the highest balance and the dynamic drawdown threshold.
